Air France May Rent SSJ100 Aircraft from Irish CityJet

In Moscow, CityJet announced that it will buy 15 of the SSJ100 planes. SSJ100 is short for Sukhoi Superjet 100. CityJet is an Irish regional airline that planes on potentially purchasing these planes in Russia to Air France, which is considered a French carrier. With this purchase, CityJet will also have the option of purchasing 10 more of the SSJ100 planes sometime later in October 2016.

The contract between Air France and CityJet is due to be signed in February which will allow for the first three aircrafts to be delivered sometime before the end of this year after the planes get certified to be operated on the short runway at London City Airport.

According the source, “It is being discussed, it is up to CityJet. We just sell them airplanes. It is their commercial affairs. Among those interested in wet lease there is Air France.”

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is considered a twin engine regional passenger airliner. It was commercialized in 2011 and has its maiden flight around 2008.

Russia’s Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, or SCA, has well over 60 Sukhoi Superjet 100’s that are in flight and in operation. Over 25 of the 60 are operated by Aeroflot airline, which is a Russian airline. 19 of these planes are owned by Interjet, which is a Mexican airline. 10 of the planes are owned by Gazpromavia, another Russian airline.

Air France was founded on October 7^th, 1933 and now holds a fleet size of 235 and has over 200 destinations. CityJet was founded in 1992 and now holds a fleet size of 18 and has 18 destinations.
