Beginning in 2019, Airbus will start delivering its brand new A321neo to customers around the world. Billed as the largest single aisle jet liner on the market, the A321neo is a vast improvement upon the already popular Airbus A321. Improvements seen in the A321neo include two engine options, a 20% increase in fuel efficiency, and 900km of additional flight range. These improvements will allow the A321neo to complete transatlantic passenger flights, which has essentially been impossible until now. Also, the A321neo will see the introduction of “Cabin-Flex” features which optimize cabin space and comfortably increase the seating capacity from 180 passengers to 240.

Airlines have been placing orders for A321neo aircraft for quite some time now, with bargain Hungarian airline Wizz Air being the latest to place an order with Airbus. With this new $13.7 billion plane deal, Wizz Air looks to both renew its existing Airbus fleet while simultaneously increasing its capacity for growth. The deal will only further cement Wizz Air’s place as the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe.

Wizz Air Chief Executive József Váradi had this to say about the new Airbus A321neo agreement:

“We are pleased to confirm this order with Airbus to purchase 110 A321 neo aircraft. This order will help us to build on our strong market position in Central and Eastern Europe. It also provides significant flexibility to match our fleet to our growth requirements. The new aircraft will enable us to sustain our cost advantage through cabin innovations, the latest engine technology and other efficiency improvements, while enhancing our customer offering and experience. Airbus is a key partner for us and we believe they have the best aircraft to serve our markets and we are happy to be continuing our longstanding relationship with them”.

Certainly, this deal will reap benefits for Airbus and Wizz Air for years to come.
