Founded in 1929 Dassault Aviation is a member of the Dassault group. The French manufacturer manufactures business jets, regional jets, and aircraft for the military. In the 1960’s Dassault began producing airborne radars, seeker heads for air to air missiles, navigation, and bombing aids under the name Electronique Marcel Dassault.Dassault Systems was established in 1981 to develop Dassault’s CAD program. In early 2000 they merged with several European companies to form EADS which was later renamed to the Airbus Group. The Falcon family of jets is a premier line of business and regional jets produced by Dassault. Manufactured alongside the Dassault fighter jets the Falcon family includes five different versatile high-performance jets. Within the Falcon family is the Falcon 5X, Falcon 7X, Falcon 8X, Falcon 900, and Falcon 2000.
First, the 5X is a 16 passenger aircraft with a range of 5,200 nautical miles and has a top speed of Mach 0.9. Designed with passenger comfort in mind the interior cabin is 6 feet, six inches tall. The Falcon 7X was the first business jet with a digital flight control system. It also features a redesigned wing which offers a substantial increase in the lift-to-drag ratio. Powered by three Pratt & Whitney Canada 307A engines the aircraft is capable of reaching Mach 0.90. More than 180 are in service in over 34 countries since its first delivery in June 2007. Representing an important addition in the ultra-long range segment is the 8X.
The 8 passenger jet can reach Mach 0.80 and can fly 6450 nautical miles. This makes the 8X capable of enduring 14 hours of flight, meaning you can fly non-stop from LA to Beijing. Featured on the 8X is the next generation of the EASy flight deck and Honeywell’s next generation 3D color weather radar system. The new Falcon 900LX was launched in 2008 at Ebace. The LX offers an increased range of 7 percent over the 900EX. The efficiency of the 900LX is between 35 and 40 percent better than other planes in its class.
The 900LX features 3 Honeywell TFE731-60 engines that allow the plane to reach FL390 in just 20 minutes. The first delivery of a 900LX occurred in 2010 shortly after it earned its EASA and FAA certifications. The first delivery of the Falcon 2000LXS occurred in April 2013. Powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney Canada PW308C with Talon II combustors that produce 7000lbs. of thrust its capable of flying at Mach 0.862. With its optimized aerodynamics the 2000LXS combines agility with the comfort of a wide body aircraft and can fly up to 4,000 nautical miles.
