Designed For Kit Assembly By Amateur Builders, The Rv-6 Is A Derivative Of The Company’S Rv-4. First Flown In 1986, The Aircraft Was The Company’S First Model To Feature Two Seats In A Side-By-Side Configuration, Made In Response To Consumer Demand. The Rv-6 Features Two Variants: The Rv-6 (Equipped With A Tail-Wheel Landing Gear) And The Rv-6A (Equipped With Nose-Wheel Or Tricycle Landing Gear). The Rv-6 Is Distinct In The Homebuilt Aircraft Industry In That It Is One Of The Only Kit Aircraft Utilized As A Military Training Vehicle (For The Nigerian Air Force In 1989). Despite A Wider Fuselage (A 43 Inch Wide Cockpit), The Rv-6 Did Not Significantly Diminish In Performance Over The Rv-4 And Was Only Three Miles Per Hour Slower. Equipped With A Four Cylinder, Four-Stroke, Air-Cooled, Horizontally-Opposed Lycoming O-360 Engine Providing 180 Horsepower, The Rv-6 Can Attain A Maximum Speed Of 210 Miles Per Hour, A Cruise Of 199 Miles Per Hour, A Stall Of 49 Miles Per Hour, A Range Of 720 Miles Per Hour, A Climb Rate Of 2,275 Feet Per Minute, And An Altitude Of 25,700 Feet. The Rv-6 Also Has A Fuel Capacity Of 38 Gallons And An Empty Weight Of 965 Pounds. The Model Was Offered In Two Variable Landing Gear Variants And Optional Canopy Configurations. The Rv-6 Was A Taildragger Aircraft (Or Fitted With Conventional Landing Gear – Two Main Wheels Near The Front Of The Aircraft And A Small Wheel/Skid To Support The Tail). The Rv-6A Features Tricycle Landing Gear, In Which The Wheels Are Arranged With A Single Nose Wheel In The Front And Two Close To The Gravitational Center. The 6A Variant’S Nose Wheel Is Free-Castering And Attached To A Steel Engine Mount. Initially Produced With A One Piece, Forward Hinged Canopy, The Rv-6/6A Was Eventually Offered With A Sliding Canopy Which The Pilot Could Open While Taxiing On The Ground.
