Boeing and Emirates celebrated the 150th delivery of a 777 into their fleet, as a freighter and two 777-300ERs arrived to the Dubai-based carrier this past week.
The two sides have been working together for over thirty years, and the unprecedented triple delivery shows how strong their relationship is. The aircraft itself has proved to be very durable and reliable over the years, prompting many repeat orders from the Middle Eastern airline.
Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates, commented on the milestone, remarking on how beneficial their relationship with Boeing has been.
"We have enjoyed a strong and long-standing relationship with Boeing on the 777 program. As the world's largest 777 operator, our multi-billion dollar commitment to the program continues to support jobs and innovation across the aerospace manufacturing supply chain. The 777s give Emirates the range, reliability, and flexibility to efficiently serve close to 100 destinations on six continents with non-stop flights from our hub in Dubai. We are pleased to mark the delivery of our 150th 777 aircraft, and will continue to work closely with the Boeing team on the next generation 777X for the Emirates fleet,” Clark said.
This also marked the first time Boeing has delivered three 777s at the same time to a single customer. It is no surprise that the honor came to Emirates, as they are the world’s largest operator of the aircraft and hold the distinction of being the only airline ever to operate all six of the 777 variants introduced into service by Boeing.
The 777 has been active in the skies since 1995, after the plane was first introduced six years prior. Emirates ordered its first Boeing 777s in 1992 with delivery beginning in June 1996, and has not slowed down since. Boeing received 1,300 orders in the seventeen years that followed, and built more than 1,000 of the model for sixty customers.
