The Navy has contracted avionics software engineers at Lockheed Martin Corp. to provide cyber security and data integrity for their fleet of 20 C-130T Hercules cargo, logistics, and utility aircraft. The contract was announced to be in the $16 million dollar range by Officials of the Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Md. and is actually a modification to the current Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems segment in Owego, N.Y., for data integrity/cyber security in the Avionics Obsolescence Upgrade (AOU) effort for the C-130T aircraft.

On September 6th 2016, Gregory Polek wrote an article for AIN Online discussing how Airbus announced a deal with Vietnamese Airlines that recently passed. The contract consisted of three different orders. The first order was for Vietjet for 20 Airbus A321s. Another order was for Jetstar Pacific for 10 Airbus A320s. Lastly, there was an order for Vietnam Airline for 10 Airbus A350-900s. In total, these orders have a combined potential value of around $6.5 billion at list price.

The Boeing Company, the American multinational corporation that manufactures and sells airplanes, has recently announced that they anticipate a drop in the number of airplanes they deliver this year. This announcement was made by Boeing executives during the company’s quarterly earnings call. Following a record year in 2015 with 762 airplanes delivered, the Boeing Company expects to deliver around 740 to 745 airplanes in 2016.

In Moscow, CityJet announced that it will buy 15 of the SSJ100 planes. SSJ100 is short for Sukhoi Superjet 100. CityJet is an Irish regional airline that planes on potentially purchasing these planes in Russia to Air France, which is considered a French carrier. With this purchase, CityJet will also have the option of purchasing 10 more of the SSJ100 planes sometime later in October 2016.

Emirates Airline is set to dethrone Qantas for the title of longest active airline route in the world. The Middle Eastern airline is preparing to add a nonstop service that travels all the way from its hub in Dubai to Panama City. The voyage is 8,590 miles long, which barely edges out the current record by about 12 miles.

The largest airline carrier serving Central and Eastern Europe, Wizz Air, has signed a deal with Airbus at the 51st Le Bourget International Paris Air Show. This deal includes the latest and greatest A321neo Airbus Cabin Flex configuration, which is comprised of 239 seats with an 18-inch comfort standard. Currently operating 61 aircraft with over 380 routes from 22 bases, Wizz Air has signed for the largest single order for the A321neo aircraft with 110 aircraft on order. Wondering how much 110 narrow-body twin-engine jet airliners cost? A petty $14 billion.

In order to boost passenger capacity and increase route flexibility, Ethiopian Airlines has finalized an order for six 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. Boeing had previously announced the order but chose not to identify the buyer. On June 17th, 2015, at the Paris Air Show Boeing revealed the undisclosed customer would be Ethiopian Airlines. Ethiopian Airlines is currently operating thirteen 787-8 Dreamliners in its fleet. After delivery of the new order, the Addis Ababa-based carrier will operate a total of nineteen 787-8 Dreamliners.
