Emirates to Take Title of “World’s Longest Flight” from Qantas with New Panama Route
Emirates Airline is set to dethrone Qantas for the title of longest active airline route in the world. The Middle Eastern airline is preparing to add a nonstop service that travels all the way from its hub in Dubai to Panama City. The voyage is 8,590 miles long, which barely edges out the current record by about 12 miles.
The flight will also be Emirates’ first to a Central American destination, and will take a whopping 17 hours and 35 minutes to complete. The rest of the top ten longest flights (in terms of distance) that are currently scheduled is as follows:

There are three routes that were longer than the Dubai-Panama City one, though these routes are no longer scheduled for various reasons. The longest flight ever was from Newark to Singapore, on Singapore Airlines at a distance of 9,535 miles. The two others were Los Angeles to Singapore, also on Singapore Airlines (8,770 miles), and New York to Bangkok (Thai Airways International, 8,676 miles).
As of now, there are no flights that go directly from Europe to Australia - which would exceed all these records. All of those flight have a stop somewhere in the United States.
Emirates will use a Boeing 777-200LR for their odyssey. The route will launch on the first day of February next year.
