Curtiss-Wright Corporation Strengthens Position in Embedded Systems
Curtiss-Wright Corporation has been a global manufacturer of energy products for the commercial, industrial, and defense markets for almost 100 years. In 1929, the company was formed via the merger of Curtiss and Wright, both supplier companies. The company had quickly grown to become the largest aircraft manufacturer in the USA by the end of World War II, supplying large numbers of aircraft to all branches of the US armed forces. Since then, it has slowly moved its business from aircraft manufacturing to the development and manufacturing of actuators, aircraft controls, valves, and surface treatment services, in addition to commercial nuclear power, nuclear navy systems, and industrial vehicles.
In 2004, Curtiss-Wright further strengthened its position in the global market in the new century with the acquisition of Synergy Microsystems, a stock purchase transaction valued at $49 million. The first decade of the 2000s saw substantially more mergers and acquisitions as many industries were becoming more consolidated, and Curtiss-Wright Corporation was quick to follow suit.
The merger benefited Curtiss-Wright by drastically increasing their offering of state-of-the-art products for embedded systems. Synergy’s expertise in the design and integration of single and multi-processor, single-board computers was put to good use in innovations for products that were eventually used in a number of military, aerospace, industrial, as well as commercial applications.
Curtiss-Wright Corporation is currently a publicly-traded company on the New York Stock Exchange, one which reports over $2.5 billion in annual revenue. Its customers are in the commercial aerospace, defense, oil and gas, nuclear power generation, and general industrial industries primarily, although there are countless others in other industries.
