In light of its recently lifted sanctions Iran is looking to strengthen its airline fleet and taking first steps towards this goal the country’s officials signed two agreements covering orders of new aircrafts as well as a comprehensive civil aviation co-operation package. The agreements were made known recently during Iranian President, Hassan Rohani’s official visit to France. Iran Air has since signed an agreement with Airbus for the acquisition of a full range of new Airbus aircrafts of which 45 of them are single aisle aircrafts and 73 of them are wide-bodied aircrafts. Also included in this deal are maintenance training and support services meant to help Iran Air get acquainted with commercial aviation services.
In addition to the signed agreement with Airbus, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Dr. Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi has also signed a comprehensive co-operation agreement meant to help modernize the country’s civil aviation sector and provide support to the development of airport operations, air navigation services, regulatory harmonization, etc.
Iran Air Chairman and CEO, Farhad Parvaresh signed the agreement for 118 new aircrafts which will includes 12 A380s, 16 A350-1000s, 18 A330neos, 21 A320ceos, 27 A330ceos and 24 A320neos. After the announcement was made about the two agreements Mr Parvaresh stated that
"Today’s announcement is the start of re-establishing our civil aviation sector into the envy of the region and along with partners like Airbus we’ll ensure the highest world standards.” In similar fashion Airbus President and CEO, Fabrice Bregier went on to say that “The skies have cleared for Iran’s flying public and Airbus is proud to welcome Iran’s commercial aviation back into the international civil aviation community. Today is a significant step in the overhaul and modernization of Iran’s commercial aviation sector and Airbus stands ready to play its role in supporting it.”
