Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 Completes First Test Run
Rolls-Royce has a long history in the aircraft engine business, going as far as 1906. Today, it is the second-largest manufacturer of aircraft engines. The Rolls-Royce family expands by adding the Trent 7000, their seventh generation of the Trent family of engines. Introduced at the Farnborough Airshow in 2014, the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 has successfully completed its first test run on a test bed in Derby, UK.
The engine will exclusively be used by Airbus for its new A330neo series of aircraft. The Trent 7000 will complete its maiden flight in the beginning of 2016, while its commercial inauguration could be expected in 2017.
The Trent 7000 incorporates the latest Trent 1000 architecture and Trent XWB technology. Some of the improvements in performance when compared to Trent 700 include the 68-72,000 pounds of thrust that the Trent 7000 will deliver, its reduced fuel consumption by 10%, reducing half the noise, and double the bypass ratio. The engine has become the customer’s first choice in the modern market for its reliability and extended hours/experience than any of the other large gas turbine family.
Chris Davie, Rolls-Royce, Program Director - Civil Large Engines, said:
“This is a great moment for everyone at Rolls-Royce – we have achieved an important program milestone on the journey to deliver our latest Trent engine. We are working closely with Airbus to ensure the Trent 7000 brings a step change in performance and economics.”
