Rolls-Royce Wins Its Largest Ever Order with $9.2B Emirates Deal for Trent 900 Engines

In a recent deal worth $9.2 billion, Rolls-Royce and Emirates airline has entered a contract for 200 Trent 900 engines, which will be utilized for the Airbus A380 super-jumbos. In addition to this deal, Rolls-Royce struck another contract with Air China worth a total of $993 million. In this case, they are supplying the Trent 1000 engine for the 15 Boeing Dreamliner. This marks an astounding 50% market share for Rolls-Royce within the super-jumbo engine sales. Sir Tim Clark, president of Emirates, stated, “Today’s announcement is significant not only because it cements the partnership between Emirates and Rolls-Royce, but also because of the significant economic impact that this will have on aviation manufacturing in the UK and Europe.”

This partnership began in 1996 and is continuing strong throughout the years. In 2007, Rolls-Royce’s Trent 900 engine, known for its fuel efficiency, was used to power the A380 commercial aircraft. This engine has grown in popularity - flying with eight operators on an estimated 70 aircraft.  Chief executive of Rolls-Royce John Rishton explained,

“The success of Emirates over the last thirty years has been extraordinary. Rolls-Royce has been proud to have been part of this success, powering Emirates aircraft since 1996. We are delighted that Emirates has again placed its trust in our technology, with the biggest order in our history.”
