Ireland-based helicopter leasing company Waypoint Leasing has agreed to purchase up to 20 twin-engine H135 helicopters from Airbus Helicopters, a division of Airbus, over the next three years. The agreement covers the purchase of up to 20 twin-engine H135 helicopters. Waypoint will primarily lease the H135s to operators performing EMS missions worldwide. The H135 helicopters have a flexible configuration and are capable of performing multi-roles. They are also able perform other public services such as law enforcement, rescue, and offshore operations. H135 is a multi-purpose aircraft that can be used in several missions such as EMS or police tasks, even in difficult weather conditions and terrains.

We are pleased to be the pioneer acquirer of the H135, as we continue to offer operators state-of-the-art helicopters for EMS missions and other critical operations, said Ed Washecka, CEO of Waypoint Leasing. The H135 complements our current Airbus offerings, which include the H225 and H145, and adds scale and diversity to our fleet.

Airbus Helicopter global business and services executive vice-president Dominique Maudet said,

"This signature represents a significant step in the development of our partnership with Waypoint, and we continue to work together to support their objectives.

The major change to the “new” H135  will see the light twin-engine aircraft equipped with the manufacturer’s in-house Helionix avionics system, but it will also feature a four-axis autopilot, and a redesigned aft cabin roof for 165 liters more cabin space. The Helionix system was introduced into service through the H145 and H175 last year, and is set to be included in Airbus Helicopters’ newly-unveiled H160.

Speaking to Vertical, Axel Humpert, head of the H135 program at Airbus Helicopters, said the addition of Helionix and four-axis autopilot would help increase situational awareness and reduce pilot workload: Just imagine you are over the sea, in front of a mountain, or on a building and you want to stabilize your flight on the spot, on the point, then the fourth axis is the one that helps the pilot to reduce his workload and concentrate on the environment or whatever his duties are. In a separate transaction, Waypoint stated that it has placed the first of its Airbus H145 orders on lease with Pacific Helicopters, a firm that provides helicopter services in Papua New Guinea and across the Asia Pacific region.
