Airbus has finalized its deal with Indian budget airline IndiGo to sell 250 A320neo aircraft. This is the second largest order by value for Airbus-it is the largest ever in the number of aircraft sold. IndiGo is the largest domestic airline by market share in India. The Middle Eastern airline is preparing to add a nonstop service that travels all the way from its hub in Dubai to Panama City. Mitsubishi Aircraft recently opened a brand new aircraft engineering facility in Seattle, Washington, in hopes of accelerating its Mitsubishi regional jet (MRJ) program. The new facility was named the Seattle Engineering Center (SEC) and will allow Mitsubishi to strengthen its aircraft development capabilities. Its 150 members will include 50 Japanese engineers and 100 from Seattle that will work on analyzing flight-test data to get the new Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) certified and into service with various airlines. Boeing announced that the company has finalized a deal with five Japanese partners to supply components for the new 777X aircraft. The deal tails a memorandum of agreement (MoA) between Boeing, Japan Aircraft Industries (JAI), and Japan Aircraft Development Corporation (JADC) to deliver approximately 21% of the major aircraft structure components. Components that are covered under the contract include fuselage sections, center wing sections, pressure bulkhead, main landing gear wells, passenger, cargo and main landing gear doors, wing components, and wing-body fairings. The aircraft manufacturing giant Airbus is undergoing preparation to deliver the first A330 wide-body aircraft from its China plant in 2018. The company had signed a deal with Aviation Industry Corp. of China and the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone earlier this month to construct a cabin completion center in Tianjin, where the A320 jets are assembled. This will be constructed next to the already existing A320 final assembly plant, and will be able to assemble two aircraft per month. The facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017, and deliveries from the plant are planned to begin early 2018. Read more >>
